Where Traffic  Deaths Occur
Traffic Death Data from the California Highway Patrol reports location in a number of different way.  Here data is examined by
1. Type of Highway: State and Federal highways (numbered highway, e.g. I5,) or other kind of roads (county highways, rural roads and city streets.)
2. Incorporated and Unincorporated Areas:  All cities are incorporated and can be considered 'urban' all other areas are unincorporated and can be considered 'rural'.
These areas are examined here separately and in combination.

More deaths, 1933 (57%) occur on non-state/federal highways.

More Alcohol deaths, 823, occur on non-state/federal highways.


+ Alcohol deaths represent a higher percentage (43%) of all deaths on non-state/federal highways than on such highways (36%).








More deaths, 1852 or (54%) occur on non-state/federal highways.

Alcohol deaths are 40% of both incorporated and unincorporated areas.









More deaths, 1170 or (34%) occur on non-state/federal incorporated roads than on any other combination.

More alcohol deaths, 457 occur on non-state/federal incorporated roads than on any other combination.

+ Alcohol deaths as a percentage occur most frequently in unincorporated non-state/federal highways - Rural roads
