* Alcohol  Involved crash means one of the parties involved  in a crash had consumed alcohol, not necessarily the person killed.

 

+ The 3075 traffic deaths in 2009 is the lowest number of  deaths since before 1991.
+ Traffic deaths in 2009 are 10% lower than 2008.
+ Traffic deaths in 2009 are 24% lower than 2005
+ 2009 is the fourth year in a row there has been a decrease

+ Males are much more likely than females to be involved in alcohol related deaths.

+ The rate of alcohol involved crashes for males 16-20 is dramatically lower than for 21-25.  In 1991, the rate for  this group was over 18 per 100,000 now it is under 9. This is the result of prevention action over time.

+ For males the highest rate of alcohol related deaths occur in the 21-25 year age group, for females it is the 16-20.
