______________________________________________

+  In 2008, as in other years, for most age groups, the pedestrian was at fault in the crash in which they died.

+
For pedestrians there has been a steady drop in deaths over time.  2008 had the lowest number of pedestrian deaths, 642, in the last 18 years.

+ For pedestrians there is a big difference in deaths by gender.  In 2008, females comprised 29% of pedestrian deaths.
+ The pattern over time for both genders demonstrates a decline, although the pattern looks different.  Males have had a 27% decline since 1991, while females have had 32% decline.

+
For pedestrians there is a big difference in deaths by gender and alcohol involvement.

+
For alcohol involvement, for
both genders there is an increase over time.  Hence, while the number of pedestrian deaths has been going down the percent that involve alcohol has been going up.

This is a complicated chart with many age groups.  It makes two points: 1. The groups with highest and lowest number of deaths: in 2008 the highest  group was aged 41-50 and lowest was 0-15 year olds. 2. How the pattern for an age group has changing over time: comparatively the 0-15 age group appears to have gone the most.
+ All age groups displayed a reduction in pedestrian deaths in 2008 compared to 2007.

+ For
every injury crash the police determine who was primarily at fault (responsible). Using 2008 data, in the majority of cases the pedestrian was a fault.  For males, they are at fault in 62% of their own pedestrian death.  Females are at fault in for 43% of their own deaths. (Often this means the pedestrian has been drinking.)

+
For both males and females a dramatic increase in pedestrian deaths occur after the age of 41, approximately 64%.
+ For the 41-59 age group males have more than 3 times the numbers of females.

+ For pedestrians there is a big difference in deaths by gender and alcohol involvement.

+ For males 16-50, in 50% of the deaths alcohol is involved.

+
In 2008, as in other years, for most age groups, the pedestrian was at fault in the crash in which they died.

+
The exception was for pedestrians over 61 and under 15 years of age.
