The Collision Hour varies by alcohol use, size of county and whether it occurs on number state highways or unincorporated* areas of counties.


*Traffic Death Data from the California Highway Patrol reports location in a number of different way.  Here data is examined by
1. Type of Highway: State and Federal highways (numbered highway, e.g. I5,) or other kind of roads (county highways, rural roads and city streets.)
2. Incorporated and Unincorporated Areas:  All cities are incorporated and can be considered 'urban' all other areas are unincorporated and can be considered 'rural'.

Most non-alcohol Collisions occur in the afternoon.









Most Alcohol collisions occur after 8 PM










For Counties over 1 million in size, the peak for non-alcohol deaths is 5 PM.  For other counties the peak is at 3 PM.








For all county size alcohol related crashes occur mostly between 8 PM and 2 PM.










The largest number of non-alcohol crashes occur on non-state highways in incorporated areas at 5 PM.










The largest number of non-alcohol crashes occur on non-state highways in incorporated areas.

Incorporated areas, for both state and non-state highways tend to occur later in the evening and early morning compared to unincorporated areas.









For non-alcohol collisions, 2008 was lower at nearly every hour of the day compared to the other years.











For alcohol collisions, 2008 was was very similar to other years in terms of time of day.
